Terms of use
Last updated November 2, 2026
These terms cover your use of TrailCircuit (trailcircuit.com, including the park finder), run by Rited Studio ("we", "us"). By using the site you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
Plan your own outing
TrailCircuit offers general information about parks, trails, walking, hiking, running and gear. It is not professional, medical or safety advice, and it can be wrong or out of date. Park details come from OpenStreetMap, the National Park Service and our own research, and some are marked as estimates we haven't confirmed. Trails close, conditions change and maps have errors.
Before you go, check current conditions, closures, rules and weather with the park or land manager, and judge what's safe for you and the people with you. If you have a health condition, or are starting a new activity, ask a doctor first. Outdoor activities carry real risks, including injury. You take part at your own risk and are responsible for your own decisions.
Accounts
You need an account to comment or post. You must be at least 13, and give accurate information. Keep your password to yourself; you're responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us through the contact form if you think someone else is using it.
What you post
You keep ownership of the comments, reviews, questions and fixes you post. By posting, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, reproduce, adapt for formatting and distribute that content on and in connection with TrailCircuit. Corrections we accept from your fixes may become part of our park data. You can delete your posts, which ends the license except for copies already made into park data or kept in backups for a limited time.
You're responsible for what you post, and you promise you have the right to post it. Posts must follow the community guidelines. We may review, hide or remove any post, and suspend or close accounts, at our discretion, including for breaking these terms. We don't have to host any particular content.
Things you must not do
- Break the law, or infringe anyone's rights, including copyright and privacy.
- Harass, threaten or impersonate anyone, or post others' personal information.
- Post spam, advertising or misleading information, or manipulate ratings.
- Scrape, copy or harvest the site or its data in bulk, or use automated tools to post or send messages.
- Probe, overload or interfere with the site's security or operation, or try to get around its limits.
Our content
The articles, photos, illustrations, design and the TrailCircuit name and logo belong to us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and trademark law. You may read, share links to and print pages for personal, non-commercial use. Other use needs our written permission. Park outlines, trails and amenities are © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License, and some national park details come from the NPS Data API. See copyright and DMCA for how to report infringement.
Links to other sites
We link to park agencies, sources and other websites for your convenience. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content or practices.
Disclaimers
The site is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability and non-infringement. We don't promise that the site will be available, error-free or secure, or that information on it is complete or current.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Rited Studio and its people won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any injury, loss or damage arising from your use of the site, your reliance on its information, or your outdoor activities. Our total liability for any claim relating to the site is limited to US $100. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Indemnity
If someone brings a claim against us because of what you posted or how you used the site in breach of these terms, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs, to the extent the law allows.
Changes and ending
We may change the site or these terms. When we change the terms, we'll update the date at the top, and continuing to use the site means you accept the new terms. You can stop using the site and delete your account at any time. Sections that by their nature should survive, such as the license for posted content, disclaimers and limits of liability, survive.
General
If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a term isn't a waiver of it. These terms, together with the privacy policy and community guidelines, are the whole agreement between you and us about the site.
